Nearpod; What is it?

Hello everyone! In today's blog post, I will be talking about a hybrid learning tool called nearpod. I will cover its benefits, limitations, and how teachers can apply it in a hybrid learning community.

Before diving into its benefits, I want to explain a little bit more about what nearpod is. Nearpod is a tool that combines multimedia learning with digital assessments for use in class. It helps teachers create interactive lessons and presentations that include things like quizzes, polls, collaboration boards, and much more. Some of its benefits include it can be used for a variety of age groups and the platform is easy to use and maneuver. Additionally, you can use things such as virtual reality through nearpod and experience things like going on a school trip even from home.

Nearpod also has some limitations. One of these limitations is the cost. There are three different packages you can sign up for when using nearpod. They are silver, gold, and platinum. The silver package is free but does not include as much as the gold or platinum packages do. Although, it does still offer the basics, such as the ability to create lessons and deliver these digitally, and a few more things. The gold package is 120$ a year and the platinum is 349$ per year, and both offer much more than the basic silver package. I included the price ranges in the limitations because if an educator wanted to use nearpod and could only use the silver package, they might be limited in what they can do.   Another limitation is just figuring out how to use it. Although it is easy to make your way through the platform, it can still be an issue for students with learning disabilities or kids who are younger.

Teachers can apply this to their classrooms in many ways. Nearpod lessons can be created within nearpod or on google slides. From there, they can create a presentation with an array of different things for the students, from displaying 3-D models or adding an interactive quiz. From there, you would get your students set up and familiar with nearpod, and then voila! You are done.

  1. One thing that I liked about your blog is how detailed you where with the limitations. One thing that I learned while reading was that the platinum package was $349 dollar a year. One question that I have is what do you think Nearpod could do to make it easier for teacher and students to understand it more?
